Now that the WNBA All-Star starters and reserves have been determined, the final step was to choose the teams themselves. Indiana Fever phenomenon Caitlin Clark and Minnesota Lynx leader Napheesa Collier participated in the captain’s selection process Tuesday, where they chose their teammates for the 2025 WNBA All-Star Game.
Clark and Collier were initially charged with selecting from the group of the other eight starters, including notable players like Breanna Stewart, A’ja Wilson, and Paige Bueckers. Once both starting lineups had been established, Clark and Collier then picked from the reserves.
Clark and Collier earned captain recognition due to the fan vote. Clark was the top vote-getter in the fan voting for the event, while Collier came in second. Consequently, both players were immediately named starters for the event and announced as team captains.

Clark initiated the draft by selecting Aliyah Boston with the first overall pick. Collier responded by choosing Stewart, citing her as a co-founder of the women’s 3-on-3 professional league Unrivaled. In turn, Clark picked Stewart’s New York Liberty teammate, guard Sabrina Ionescu, providing her team with a potent 3-point shooting backcourt.
Clark strategically passed on Bueckers with her final starters pick, aiming to avoid a three-guard starting lineup that lacked substantial size. This allowed Collier to eagerly pick up her “Baby Husky,” reuniting the UConn alumnae for the All-Star Game.
Collier secured the first pick of the reserves portion of the draft and selected her Lynx point guard, Courtney Williams. Continuing with the same approach, Clark also went to a familiar place by choosing fellow Fever guard Kelsey Mitchell. In line with her initial move when picking Alisha Gray, Collier added another player from her Unrivaled Lunar Owls BC squad, Skylar Diggins.
Collier chose Chicago Sky frontcourt standout Angel Reese with her third reserve pick, affectionately referring to her as “Mebounds.” Clark then snagged both Washington Mystics rookies, guard Sonia Citron and forward Kiki Iriafen. With a frontcourt-heavy lineup, Collier finished out her roster with guards Kelsey Plum and Rhyne Howard from the Los Angeles Sparks and Atlanta Dream, respectively.
Despite Clark not being initially inclined to trade players from her roster, she revealed an agreement with Collier to trade coaches. This arrangement pairs Liberty head coach Sandy Brondello with Ionescu on Clark’s team, while Collier will be led by her Lynx head coach, Cheryl Reeve.
ESPN’s Malika Andrews reported, while presiding over the All-Star Game draft, that the WNBA has sanctioned the coaches trade that Clark and Collier orchestrated.
With the teams now complete, the All-Star Game is ready to begin. WNBA All-Star weekend is scheduled for July 18 and July 19 in Indianapolis. The league will host its skills competition and 3-point contest on Friday (8 p.m. ET, ESPN), followed by the All-Star Game on Saturday (8:30 p.m. ET, ABC).
Any players who are selected for the team but are unable to participate in the game will be replaced by WNBA commissioner Cathy Engelbert. While Clark has been sidelined this season due to two separate injuries, she is expected to return to action on Wednesday and is anticipated to be fully available for the All-Star Game.
All-Star Game participants will receive $2,575 for their involvement in the contest, according to Front Office Sports. The game’s MVP will be awarded a bonus of $5,150.
