In the Wheelchair Masters men’s singles title match, Alfie Hewett of the United Kingdom suffered a decisive loss to Tokito Oda, the top-ranked player from Japan.
Hewett, a 27-year-old with three previous Masters victories and competing in his sixth singles final at this level, saw his match cut short as Oda, a rising star, secured a straightforward 6-1, 6-1 triumph in Huzhou, China.
The 19-year-old titleholder, who previously defeated Hewett’s doubles compatriot Gordon Reid in the prior season’s concluding match, prolonged his upper hand against the second-ranked player.
This marked Oda’s 13th victory in their 22 encounters, adding to his previous wins against Hewett in the championship matches of the French Open and Wimbledon this year.
Before these two finals, Hewett had secured a victory against Oda in the Australian Open final earlier in January, where the British player claimed his tenth Grand Slam singles title.
Additionally, Hewett concluded as the second-place finisher in the men’s doubles final held in Huzhou, where he and Reid were defeated by Martin de la Puente and Ruben Spaargaren in a closely contested final-set tiebreaker on Saturday.
