The next fight for Anthony Joshua will not see him refining his techniques under Ben Davison’s guidance. Instead, he will collaborate with someone who has faced him twice previously. Before the scheduled bout with Jake Paul in late 2025, AJ will train with Oleksandr Usyk’s team. The former unified heavyweight champion is scheduled to face Paul in an eight-round match on December 19th in Miami, which will be broadcast on Netflix.
During the Jake Paul vs. Anthony Joshua press conference, Joshua spoke about his recent association with the renowned Ukrainian, and an excerpt was shared on the X account @ChampRDS. He stated,
“I received an invitation to train with Team Usyk. We’ve had some productive training sessions. He’s among the top athletes globally. Gaining insight into the methods of someone who has accomplished so much has been incredible. It’s been a fantastic and challenging experience.”
The British fighter mentioned that he didn’t engage in direct sparring with Usyk. Nevertheless, the general work ethic and strategy of the Spain-based team have benefited Joshua significantly. Joshua was defeated by Usyk in two heavyweight title fights, both times by decision in 2021 and 2022.
Anthony Joshua suggests Jake Paul possesses an advantage over Tyson Fury in one aspect
Leading up to his fight with Jake Paul, Anthony Joshua couldn’t resist taking a jab at his longstanding adversary, Tyson Fury. There are recurring rumors of a potential Joshua vs. Fury fight in 2026.
In the promotional activities leading up to the fight with ‘The Problem Child’, Joshua remarked [via Bloody Elbow],
“I approach it seriously. He’s a victor, and his mindset is robust. It surpasses Tyson Fury’s—he’s present. Therefore, I regard him seriously and give him the mental respect he merits in training.”
