Daniel Cormier is convinced that his old rival, Jon Jones, deliberately disclosed his arthritis in the footage that surfaced.
Jon Jones, who previously held two titles in the UFC, encountered a significant obstacle in his efforts to stage a comeback bout later this year. During a conversation at a Dirty Boxing event in Houston that was clandestinely recorded, Jones divulged that he suffers from advanced hip arthritis, which is impeding his prospects of re-entering competition.
Subsequently, Jones made social media posts where he minimized the severity of his arthritis and chastised one of the attendees for covertly recording their discussion. Jones has expressed a desire to compete again in the Octagon later this year at the forthcoming White House gathering, possibly facing Alex Pereira.
However, Daniel Cormier, who has been Jones’s rival for an extended period, is of the opinion that Jones was fully aware of his actions when he disclosed his current health issues.
Daniel Cormier: Jon Jones’s Remarks on Arthritis Convey a Broader Message About His Future
In a video recently posted on his YouTube channel, Cormier offered his perspective on Jones’s recent statements concerning his career path.
“My slight disagreement with [Jon’s statements] begins here,” Cormier started.
“It’s quite simple to discern if someone is recording you using Meta glasses. Concealing the fact that you’re being filmed with Meta glasses is challenging when you’re in close quarters with the individual…how could he have overlooked that? It’s difficult to remain oblivious in such scenarios, especially after spending a lifetime under public scrutiny. When you’ve constantly been observed by the public, you develop an intuitive awareness of when you’re being recorded.
“My estimation is that Jon Jones was fully conscious of his actions and intended for people to discover he’s in pain,” Cormier proceeded regarding Jones. “And I am convinced he is indeed injured – that particular video led me to conclude that Jon Jones has nothing more to offer.”
Cormier and Jones had previously hinted at a possible third encounter, either in a boxing ring or a wrestling match, but those intentions seem to be postponed indefinitely. For the moment, Jones’s future prospects in combat sports are unclear.
