Aaron Boone, the New York Yankees’ manager, informed members of the press on Tuesday that standout hitter Aaron Judge had been enduring discomfort in his shoulder, according to Brendan Kuty of The Athletic.
The irritation was characterized as persistently bothersome, though it intensified during the recent weekend. Judge’s medical assessment revealed a bone contusion in his right ribs, and he is experiencing sensations related to this in his shoulder region.
Diagnostic scans identified the problem, and Judge is scheduled for a consultation with a physician on Tuesday evening.
The prominent New York outfielder’s most recent game appearance was on Sunday, May 31st. Despite this, he continues to hit the ball with force, accumulating 17 home runs across 59 contests. Although his home run count is strong, Judge’s current batting average stands at merely .248, which, if the season concluded at present, would mark the lowest full-season average of his professional career.
Judge will not participate in the Yankees’ home game on Tuesday versus the Cleveland Guardians. He is anticipated to consult with medical professionals to establish an estimated period for his return.
According to Boone, there is optimism that this condition will be managed on a day-to-day basis, precluding the need for a placement on the 10-day injured list.
Given Judge’s absence, the Yankees have designated José Caballero to assume duties in right field. Caballero is a multi-talented utility player, generally an infielder, but capable of substituting for Judge, particularly for a brief period.
Caballero has participated in 49 matchups this season. His offensive statistics include a .263 batting average, .318 on-base percentage, and .388 slugging percentage, alongside four home runs and 15 runs batted in.
Should the Yankees’ powerful batter ultimately require a stint on the injured list, the New York club might consider recalling Spencer Jones, or opt to continue with Caballero until Jasson Domínguez is prepared to come back from his own IL period.
