Scott Coker has re-entered the mixed martial arts world, and Joe Rogan expresses hopes for his venture to thrive.
Coker recently disclosed his leadership role in a yet-to-be-named MMA organization, aiming for its launch in 2027. This new league has secured $60 million in funding and boasts notable investors, including Tony Hawk. In an official statement, Coker acknowledged his consistent intention to come back to the MMA industry following Bellator’s sale, stating it was a matter of finding the right moment.
On episode 179 of the “JRE MMA Show,” Rogan talked about Coker’s newest foray into combat sports and conveyed his good wishes to the former Bellator chief in a challenging sector (as reported by MMAFighting).
“I really appreciate Scott, but I wish him the best,” Rogan commented. “Upon learning it was merely $60 million, I initially thought that seemed like a substantial sum until you consider establishing an MMA promotion, arranging television broadcasts, compensating athletes, reserving event locations, and employing a full-time team. Perhaps, with Tony Hawk involved, it could work. Perhaps.”
Rogan subsequently stated that despite his long-standing role as a UFC color commentator, he considers competition in the MMA landscape beneficial.
“Honestly, I’m backing him,” Rogan added. “I believe he excelled during his tenure leading Glory and previously with Bellator. He’s genuinely a good person. I feel increased competition benefits everyone. I think the whole MVP venture and the Netflix involvement are fantastic. They injected a significant amount of capital into the sport, allowing many individuals to earn more than they would have otherwise. Superb. The more choices, the better. I just, you know, really hope he can pull it off. It’s incredibly difficult.”
Coker recently featured on “The Ariel Helwani Show” and was queried about his perceptions of the current UFC offering’s shortcomings. He responded that contemporary audiences struggle to identify four champions in the premier MMA promotion. Coker committed to showcasing super fights within his upcoming organization.
