Real Madrid’s record-breaking acquisition of Yan Diomandé has been formally announced by RB Leipzig. The powerhouse from Spain is set to pay a guaranteed fee of €125m for the 19-year-old Ivory Coast international. Add-ons could elevate the overall valuation to €140m, with €10m of those bonuses described as highly attainable. The Spanish club has secured Diomandé on a long-term, seven-year agreement running until June 2033.
This deal easily establishes Diomandé as the most lucrative departure in Leipzig’s history. If all performance-related milestones are met, the young wide player is also poised to rank as Real Madrid’s costliest acquisition ever, as well as the most expensive African player of all time. The two clubs finalized the terms earlier in the week after multiple rounds of intense negotiations. Leipzig maintained a highly favorable bargaining position due to Diomandé’s prior contract, which was set to run until 2030 and lacked any buyout clause.
Deliberations were reportedly hindered by complications regarding the winger’s agents, while a bout of sickness pushed back Diomandé’s integration into Leipzig’s pre-season camp in Austria. However, the teenager eventually rejoined his teammates in training, dismissing rumors that his absence was an intentional strike to push through the move.

Only last summer, Leipzig committed roughly €20m to secure Diomandé from Leganés, then competing in the Spanish second tier. Although the price tag seemed steep for a prospect with a mere ten appearances in La Liga to his name, the attacker lost no time in proving he was worth every penny.
Over the course of 36 competitive matches for the German side, Diomandé contributed 13 goals and set up another ten. In the Bundesliga specifically, he found the back of the net 12 times and provided nine assists in 33 appearances.
The Ivorian winger’s electric speed, fearless ball-carrying, and clinical eye for goal allowed him to make an immediate impact without needing time to settle in. Consequently, his projected market valuation skyrocketed from €1.5m to a staggering €90m.
Leganés, his previous team, are reportedly set to receive a five percent share of Leipzig’s profit on the sale.
Prior to Real Madrid presenting the most appealing financial proposal, both Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain had shown interest in Diomandé. His transition to the Santiago Bernabéu paves the way for a potentially devastating partnership with Kylian Mbappé and Vinícius Júnior, forming one of the swiftest front lines in European football.

Leipzig’s sporting director, Marcel Schäfer, pointed to this high-profile transfer as clear evidence of the exceptional pathway and growth prospects offered to emerging talents in the Bundesliga.
