The former Wimbledon titleholder Marketa Vondrousova has submitted an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) challenging the four-year suspension imposed on her for declining a drug test.
In June, the 27-year-old athlete received the suspension following allegations by the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) that she blocked a doping control official from entering her residence for an out-of-competition screening in December 2025.
Her period of ineligibility is scheduled to conclude on June 21, 2030.
While CAS verified to BBC Sport that the appeal has been filed, the tribunal noted that a date for the hearing is still to be determined.
Vondrousova, who made history in 2023 as the first unseeded woman to capture the Wimbledon singles championship, explained in April that she had reached a “breaking point after months of physical and mental stress” at the time of her refusal.
The Czech player further stated that she felt her personal safety was threatened when the tester arrived at her residence at 20:00 on 3 December, claiming the individual did not provide proper identification or adhere to standard “protocol.” A short time later, she signed a form confirming her refusal upon stepping outside to take her dog for a walk.
Nonetheless, an independent panel ruled that Vondrousova offered “no compelling justification” for avoiding the drug test, and therefore did not qualify for a reduced sanction.
