Arthur Fery of Great Britain rallied from one set behind to defeat Aleksandar Kovacevic, securing a spot in the Winston-Salem Open semi-finals.
The fourth-seeded Fery took five consecutive games starting at 5-5 in the second set to seal a 3-6 7-5 6-3 win during Thursday’s quarter-final clash in North Carolina.
Following a crucial break against Kovacevic to level the match, Fery established a 3-0 advantage in the deciding set and served out the match to reach his first semi-final since Wimbledon back in July.
In the semi-finals, the 24-year-old is set to play James Duckworth, whom he previously defeated in Cincinnati this month, following the Australian’s 6-7 (4-7) 6-2 6-4 triumph over Hungary’s 15th seed Fabian Marozsan.
An unexpected path to the Wimbledon semi-finals earlier this year propelled Fery into the global top 40, currently placing him at world number 37 and earning him a debut appearance at the US Open.
He narrowly failed to secure a seeded spot for the year’s final Grand Slam at Flushing Meadows in New York, resulting in a first-round matchup against the 13th seed, Lorenzo Musetti.
