Kamara looks back on his infamous Vanden Borre misunderstanding
The incident took place during Portsmouth’s Premier League match against Blackburn in 2006, when Kamara was reporting live from the Fratton Park touchline.
When Anthony Vanden Borre was sent off, it led to a comical exchange as Kamara tried to piece together what occurred while speaking with a highly amused Jeff Stelling in the studio.
“If I had tried to bluff my way through, we would have lost that brilliant moment forever!” Kamara shared with FourFourTwo, explaining that instead of pretending he understood, he chose to talk through what he believed he saw.
The play resulted in Pompey defender Vanden Borre receiving a second caution, but Kamara saw the situation very differently.
“Because Anthony Vanden Borre was an overseas player, he simply didn’t react in the manner I would normally expect,” he explained.
“He was shown his second yellow and walked off quietly past his manager Avram Grant, who also remained completely calm,” Kamara noted, assuming that such a quiet exit meant nothing major had occurred.
“To me, it just looked like a standard substitution,” he added. “A domestic player would have disputed the decision and made a major fuss.”

While Kamara was left trying to clarify the situation on air, Stelling and the rest of the Soccer Saturday panel back in the studio actually had access to the full details.
“They had received updates about the red card in the studio, which I had completely missed from where I was standing,” he admitted.
“Jeff’s response to my confusion was absolutely brilliant, which helped turn the entire mistake into a classic piece of television.”
