Golden State Warriors guard Brandin Podziemski has agreed to a five-year, $110 million rookie-scale contract extension that is completely guaranteed, as reported by Shams Charania of ESPN on Saturday.
Charania noted that the agreement incorporates a trade kicker along with a mutual option for the fifth season (2031-32). This deal ensures the 19th overall pick from the 2023 draft remains a core piece of the franchise’s future vision, while simultaneously preventing him from entering restricted free agency in the upcoming offseason.
Regarding the mutual option, ESPN indicated that both parties have the ability to opt into—rather than out of—the contract’s closing year. Prior to the start of that term, both Podziemski and the Golden State front office will have the chance to negotiate further contract extensions.
Selected by Golden State out of Santa Clara, Podziemski posted a career-best 13.8 points per game during the 2025-26 campaign. Over that same stretch, he registered averages of 5.1 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 1.1 steals, while converting 45.5% of his field goals and 37.1% of his attempts from beyond the arc.
His ability to stay healthy proved invaluable. According to Charania, he stood out as one of just 18 league players to appear in every single one of the 82 regular-season games last year, while also placing among the top three players in total charges drawn over the course of his early career.
The guard has managed to boost his scoring output across each of his first three years with Golden State. As he prepares for his fourth year—the concluding season of his initial entry-level contract—he holds the distinction of being general manager Mike Dunleavy’s very first draft selection. His new extension is scheduled to begin starting in the 2027-28 season.
Reports indicate he will earn $18.9 million during the opening year of the agreement. By structuring the salary at that manageable figure, the team grants itself enhanced salary-cap adaptability for 2027-28, giving Dunleavy extra room to build around an experienced core headlined by Stephen Curry.
Podziemski is slated to open the upcoming campaign as a starting guard alongside Curry, providing a crucial spark of youthful energy to an otherwise veteran-laden Warriors roster.
With wing players Jimmy Butler III and Moses Moody currently recovering, alongside center Kristaps Porziņģis sidelined indefinitely due to an ongoing medical condition, Podziemski’s role on the court becomes all the more critical for the team.
