As Week 6 approached, Cam Skattebo had started in every game for the New York Giants this season. However, prior to Sunday’s matchup, speculations emerged that Najee Harris might assume the starting role due to Skattebo’s struggles with fumbles.
It turns out, Harris wasn’t the only player on the Giants who moved ahead of Skattebo on the depth chart. By the conclusion of the first half, Skattebo had yet to register a single touch against the New Orleans Saints.

During the first quarter, five other Giants players received credit for a rushing attempt. Alongside Harris, who initiated the game, Tyrone Tracy, Devin Singletary, Jameis Winston, and Darnell Mooney also received opportunities to carry the ball.
In the second quarter, J.J. McCarthy joined the action, recording a rushing attempt for -2 yards.
Though Skattebo did get onto the field during the half, his playing time was significantly less than what was typical. He participated in just six snaps without getting a chance to handle the ball.
Prior to this game, Skattebo had experienced four fumbles over five games. The running back hadn’t lost a fumble until Week 5, when he turned the ball over during overtime against the Washington Commanders.
The turnover positioned Washington to seize the victory, but the Giants managed to escape as the Commanders failed to attempt a field goal before overtime concluded.
Fumbling hadn’t been a significant concern for Skattebo during his rookie season. In 101 attempts last year, he was charged with merely one fumble. However, this season, he has already recorded four fumbles in 81 attempts.
