The city of New York enjoyed a summer filled with festivities in honor of the Knicks’ first NBA title since 1973.
On Tuesday, the official celebrations commenced.
With LeBron James and the Philadelphia 76ers present for their season openers, the Knicks distributed championship rings and unveiled a banner in front of a jubilant crowd gathered at Madison Square Garden.
The celebration began with the Larry O’Brien Trophy at midcourt, encircled by the rings, all set for distribution.
Next, the players — spearheaded by championship stars Jalen Brunson, OG Anunoby, and Karl-Anthony Towns — were called to the stage amidst thunderous applause. They had their first glimpse of their championship rings.
The rings were truly impressive.
As the players adorned their new jewelry, the Knicks unveiled a video showcasing the intricate design of the rings. In a competitive arena where every new championship ring aims to surpass its predecessor, the Knicks have certainly made a remarkable statement.
The rings elegantly incorporate elements of Madison Square Garden, both internally and externally. The top of the ring rises to feature the iconic structure of the renowned venue. This detachable top uncovers the stands and court of MSG lying beneath.
Once the rings were distributed, it was time for Brunson to address the audience. He shared a short speech before shifting focus to the upcoming season.
“Hello, Knicks fans!” Brunson began. “First and foremost, I want to express my gratitude for sticking around during Game 4. We truly appreciate it. As much as this victory is ours, we couldn’t have achieved it without all of you. This is surreal. It feels like a dream come true.
“I know everyone is eager to kick off this season. We’re ready to move forward as a team. However, I would like to emphasize: the excitement this city experienced over the summer, we hope to recreate that once again. Thank you, everyone. Let’s hoist this banner.”
Hoist this banner, they certainly did.
And that concluded the celebration.
LeBron and the 76ers were waiting, and it was time to focus on the task of earning yet another banner for the rafters at MSG.
