The Esports Foundation has rolled out two partner-driven qualification paths for the Esports World Cup 2027, as its Road to EWC anticipates engaging 1.8 million players through over 400 events next year.
The EWC 2027 Qualifier Program links established tournaments and community-level events to the global qualifications of the tournament. It incorporates EWC Direct Qualifiers for ongoing competitions and Satellite Last Chance Qualifiers aimed at community organizers.
Understanding the qualification routes
Through EWC Direct Qualifiers, organizers maintain control over their events and funding, preserving the identity of their tournaments and local commercial prospects. Their competitions are required to meet EWC and publisher criteria while offering players a legitimate path for qualification.
Satellite Last Chance Qualifiers are available for local tournament organizers, national esports federations and associations, internet cafés, universities, gaming venues, and festival organizers. Partners have the option to connect an existing event or launch a new competition while maintaining its unique identity, backed by marketing assistance from the Foundation.
Champions of a Satellite LCQ will secure a spot in the respective game’s EWC Last Chance Qualifier held the following summer, where they will vie for a position in the main event. The Foundation will assist winners with accommodation and visa arrangements for their attendance at the competition. These routes are additional options for players to qualify for EWC, which also include fighting-game qualification tournaments.
Games eligible, standards and timelines
The preliminary lineup for Satellite LCQ includes titles like Chess, Counter-Strike 2, FATAL FURY: City of the Wolves, and Street Fighter 6, with additional games expected to be announced. Both qualification paths must adhere to publisher specifications and EWC competitive standards that encompass tournament regulations, anti-cheat protocols, officiating, and result verification.

Submissions are open through the official Esports World Cup site until December 20, 2026. Approved events must conclude by June 1, 2027, providing organizers with a defined timeframe to host competitions and finish their qualification efforts.
Future steps for Road to EWC 2027?
The Road to EWC merges publisher-driven leagues, international competitions, and regional qualifiers leading up to the Esports World Cup. This new initiative aims to integrate more established tournaments and grassroots esports communities into this framework while allowing partner events to preserve their distinctiveness.
The Foundation will reveal Direct Qualifier partners, involved tournaments, and the number of qualification spots allocated for each game as the preparations for Road to EWC 2027 advance. Organizers need to submit applications by December 20, with approved events wrapping up by June 1, 2027.
