Christian Watson is making his return.
The Green Bay Packers wide receiver was allowed to go back to Lambeau Field during Thursday’s matchup against the Carolina Panthers after being taken to the hospital via ambulance following a chest injury in the first half.
Watson left the medical facility during halftime and joined the game again with 4:01 left in the third quarter, with Green Bay leading 27-13.
The Packers informed the media post-halftime that Watson had passed medical evaluations at a nearby hospital and was heading back to Lambeau Field. At that moment, he was officially marked as questionable and exited the ambulance with a jog upon returning to the stadium.
He then ran onto the field, much to the excitement of the supporters at Lambeau Field.
With the Packers in front 27-13 and 4:01 remaining in the third, Watson donned his helmet and re-entered the game.
Concerns regarding Watson’s injury
Watson incurred his injury early in the second quarter. He was capable of walking off the field and into the ambulance under his own strength. The Packers revealed that he experienced a chest injury and was being taken to the hospital for precautionary measures.
The incident occurred during a collision after Watson secured a 53-yard reception in the second quarter.
He was down on the field for a few moments, later walking to the medical tent on the sidelines. Following a brief check in the tent, he walked off the field and was soon seen entering an ambulance.
At that point, it seemed his evening was over amid worries about his condition. However, he made his return onto the field in the third quarter.
Watson is enjoying a standout NFL season
Currently, Watson is experiencing a breakout season in his fifth year in the NFL as one of the most effective receivers in the league. With six receptions for 100 yards before exiting Thursday’s game, Watson has achieved a total of 40 catches for 695 yards and six touchdowns this season. His yardage mark has already set a career high just eight games into the season.
It looks like he will be able to increase that figure without facing any further downtime due to his chest injury.
On that particular play, Panthers cornerback Will Lee II collided with Watson and also sustained an injury. He left the field on a cart and was reported as doubtful to return due to a hamstring injury.
