AP Poll: Florida Drops 8 Spots, Alabama Passes Indiana

Following a defeat at the hands of Missouri, Florida tumbled eight positions in the latest AP Top 25 rankings.

Suffering a heavy 45-17 defeat, the Gators plummeted from the eighth spot down to No. 16. Meanwhile, the leading five schools held their ground in the poll, though Alabama’s decisive victory against Mississippi State allowed the Crimson Tide to climb one position to No. 6, overtaking Indiana.

Top-ranked Texas enjoyed a bye during Week 5, while No. 2 Georgia secured a comfortable win over Vanderbilt. Additionally, No. 3 Notre Dame defeated North Carolina, No. 4 Miami cruised past Clemson, and fifth-ranked Ohio State claimed a road victory against Iowa.

As a consequence of their defeat, the Hawkeyes slid from No. 14 down to No. 20.

With Florida falling out of the top tier, BYU, Ole Miss, and LSU stepped in to round out the top 10. The Rebels had an idle Week 5, whereas BYU triumphed over TCU, and LSU took down FCS opponent McNeese in a matchup that Lane Kiffin declined to abbreviate.

Following their dominant performance against the Gators, Missouri climbed to the 14th spot. The Tigers surged 11 places from their previous rank at No. 25, sitting just behind Texas Tech, Utah, and Oregon on the periphery of the top 10.

Despite their setback against Alabama, Mississippi State slipped a single spot to land at No. 17.

Though Kentucky rallied from a 17-point first-half deficit to secure an overtime road win against South Carolina, the Wildcats—who entered the game as minor underdogs—were dropped from the top 25 entirely. Kentucky now leads the pack of unranked teams receiving votes, while undefeated Pitt (5-0) broke into the rankings following a Friday night triumph over Virginia Tech, despite suffering a season-ending injury to quarterback Mason Heintschel.
