Reports indicate that the potential transfer would send Nwaneri to Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund on a temporary basis, with no permanent buy option included.

Although Borussia Dortmund had been tracking Nwaneri prior to securing Giannis Konstantelias, the Arsenal academy product is now anticipated to enjoy more playing time following a recent injury to the Greek offensive player.

Transfer insider David Ornstein reports that the 19-year-old is flying out today to complete his medical assessments with Dortmund.
Konstantelias is facing a prolonged period out of action after tearing his anterior cruciate ligament during his maiden Bundesliga match against Hamburger SV, a game in which he also managed to net his opening goal.
Dortmund secured a 2-0 victory in that fixture, with Konstantelias netting the second goal via a spectacular right-footed shot from inside the penalty area.
In the wake of the Greek midfielder’s setback, Dortmund initiated contact with the Gunners, identifying Nwaneri as their primary target and swiftly finalizing the terms of the agreement.
Before this pursuit intensified, the young player was allegedly weighing up a temporary switch to Fulham in order to remain in England’s top tier, but that option has now been discarded.
The 19-year-old sat out of the squad during Arsenal’s 3-0 warm-up triumph over Manchester City in the Community Shield, missing the fixture alongside teammate Gabriel Martinelli.
Since then, the Brazilian winger has completed a transfer to Saudi Arabia, while Nwaneri is preparing for his journey to Germany, with Mikel Arteta’s coaching staff optimistic that the move will aid the teenager’s progression.
The teenage talent spent the latter portion of the 2025/26 campaign on loan at Ligue 1 club Marseille, where he scored two goals and provided one assist across nine league matches.
Interestingly, Nwaneri found the back of the net against his future club during a 3-2 Emirates Cup pre-season defeat, and subsequently scored from the spot in the shootout.
After making history as a 15-year-old during his first Premier League game for Arsenal back in 2022, the player has found first-team opportunities limited in a squad that has challenged for the league title four years in a row.
Accumulating 51 senior appearances for the Londoners, he has contributed 10 goals and two assists. Mikel Arteta admitted earlier in August that while he preferred to keep the teenager, securing consistent playing time was crucial for him.
Though the hierarchy allegedly contemplated a permanent transfer for the prospect, they ultimately settled on a short-term loan. If Nwaneri capitalizes on his opportunities in Germany, it could pave the way for either a permanent departure or a permanent spot in Arsenal’s senior squad when he returns.
