The Los Angeles baseball team, the Dodgers, saw both Enrique Hernández and Teoscar Hernández sidelined with injuries this past Wednesday.
Enrique was formally put on the disabled list by the Dodgers on Wednesday, suffering a “major rupture” in his oblique muscle. Although an exact return date remains unclear, his recovery is projected to take numerous weeks, possibly stretching into months.
“It’s certainly warranting an IL stint,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said, via ESPN’s Alden Gonzalez, “but I don’t really know as far as the time to return.”
Enrique’s first appearance of the season was just on Monday, following his recovery from an elbow operation during the off-season. He supposedly sustained the oblique injury during batting practice preceding his inaugural game, yet he still participated in that match and the one on Tuesday. However, during the Dodgers’ dominant 15-6 victory against the Colorado Rockies on Tuesday, Enrique departed prematurely after achieving a home run and a double. His discomfort was evident in the dugout.
“At this moment, I feel quite disheartened,” he conveyed following the contest.
During the second inning on Wednesday, Teoscar experienced an unusual strain while attempting to beat out a ground ball to first. He managed to move off the playing surface independently, but he was observed touching the rear of his left leg both on the field and upon entering the team’s bench area.
Teoscar also displayed clear frustration in the dugout, striking his helmet against something repeatedly before departing.
The Dodgers promptly declared him unable to continue because of a hamstring problem, and Hyeseong Kim took his place in left field.
Prior to Wednesday’s game, Teoscar boasted a .278 batting average and had hit seven home runs this current season, marking his third year playing for the Dodgers.
Even with Teoscar’s injury, the Dodgers nevertheless secured a comfortable 4-1 victory against the Rockies on Wednesday, concluding their series. Shohei Ohtani initiated the game with six innings without allowing a hit, and the Dodgers maintained a collective no-hitter until the eighth inning when the Rockies eventually recorded a base hit.
The Dodgers currently maintain a season record of 36 wins and 20 losses. They have also triumphed in 12 of their most recent 14 contests, securing a slight advantage in the NL West division. A three-game set against the Philadelphia Phillies is scheduled to commence on Friday.
Although the squad finds itself in a strong standing as the second complete month of the regular season concludes, the consecutive loss of two important players to injuries is undeniably disheartening.
