Jemimah Rodrigues takes on new off-field role

Prominent Indian female cricketer Jemimah Rodrigues has stepped into a fresh off-field responsibility following her selection as Switzerland Tourism’s Friendship Ambassador for India. This venture is designed to engage youthful Indian tourists and inspire them to venture past the conventional sight-seeing spots in Switzerland.

The official revelation took place in Bengaluru on Thursday, attended by Switzerland Tourism CEO Martin Nydegger. In this partnership, Rodrigues is set to highlight the nation’s natural scenery, cultural traditions, thrill-seeking activities, and off-the-beaten-track locations throughout the entire year.

What motivated Switzerland Tourism to select Jemimah Rodrigues?

Rodrigues stands out as one of the most prominent figures in India’s women’s cricket team, celebrated for her vibrant spirit and strong rapport with supporters. Switzerland Tourism intends to leverage her widespread appeal to captivate a younger demographic seeking tailor-made and activity-oriented vacations.

The initiative intends to position Switzerland as an all-season getaway instead of merely a summer holiday spot. It aims to prompt Indian visitors to journey through various provinces, extend their stays, and immerse themselves in regional customs while taking in the nation’s renowned alpine vistas.

With India currently ranking within Switzerland Tourism’s top 10 key origin markets, the country represents a crucial focus for the agency’s global marketing strategies.

How did Jemimah Rodrigues respond to her appointment?

Reflecting on the partnership, Rodrigues shared her enthusiasm for experiencing Switzerland in a new light and communicating her journeys to her audience in India.

“Playing for India has constantly held a deeply significant place in my heart, and no matter where my travels take me, I always bring a piece of home along,” Rodrigues remarked.

She further stated, “I am eager to connect with locals, attempt fresh activities, discover distinct locations, and broadcast those memories to everyone back in India.”

The initial promotional clip featured Rodrigues traversing Zurich and Interlaken, capturing contrasting aspects of the Swiss experience.

During her stay in Interlaken, she enjoyed a high-speed jetboat excursion, engaged in crafting authentic Swiss chocolates, and toured Ballenberg, an outdoor heritage site displaying classic Swiss building styles and country traditions. Furthermore, she journeyed up to Jungfraujoch, a spot famous for its snow-covered terrain and sweeping alpine panoramas.

Her trip subsequently shifted to Zurich, the biggest metropolis in Switzerland. Rodrigues navigated its city environment through jogging, e-biking, and cruising across Lake Zurich aboard an electric vessel. A casual outdoor picnic was also highlighted, demonstrating the city’s unique harmony between nature and modern city living.

The efficiency of the Swiss public transit network is central to the storyline, illustrating how effortlessly visitors can travel among urban centers, bodies of water, and alpine regions.

The ‘Travel Better’ concept of Switzerland Tourism

This collaboration aligns with Switzerland Tourism’s core ‘Travel Better’ ideology, which urges holidaymakers to extend their visits, travel to diverse areas, and seek out activities outside the usual tourist highlights.

Christian Schoch, who serves as the Director for India at Switzerland Tourism, mentioned that this synergy will aid in demonstrating the nation’s varied offerings throughout distinct seasons and locales.

The promotional effort will expand past its premier video, as Rodrigues is slated to tour Switzerland across spring, summer, fall, and winter. The strategy is intended to motivate Indian tourists to evaluate a broader array of vacation options in every season.

Jemimah’s rehabilitation progress

This new role arrives as Rodrigues undergoes rehab for a severe right hamstring injury, suffered during her appearance for Southern Brave in The Hundred 2026 on August 3.

The ailment required her to pull out of the tournament and ultimately sit out the Women’s Asia Cup as well as the Asian Games. She has been actively completing physical therapy to make her way back to professional play. Her exact return date will hinge on her rehabilitation progress and upcoming fitness evaluations.
