The situation surrounding Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs has taken a new direction, and this latest development appears to be bringing matters closer to a conclusion.
The former All-Pro running back was taken off the Commissioner’s Exempt List on Monday, which seemingly allows him to play, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
NFL Set to Remove Josh Jacobs From the Commissioner’s Exempt List
“ESPN sources: Packers RB Josh Jacobs is being removed from the NFL’s Commissioner Exempt list on Monday. The investigation will remain open for the NFL so it reserves the right to add further discipline if and when warranted. Jacobs is expected to be eligible to play in Week 7,” Schefter shared on Friday.
This development coincided with the league’s decision to remove Jonathon Cooper from the Commissioner’s Exempt List (CEL), thus making him available to rejoin his team for Week 7 as well.
Timing is Key in Josh Jacobs NFL Update
This timing is especially notable as it appeared that Jacobs was making strides to prevent the release of the video involving himself and the victim “ANM,” recorded on May 26 of this year.
Jacobs has been on the CEL for the entirety of the 2026 season thus far after facing multiple assault misdemeanours connected to a domestic incident.
The standard duration of suspension for domestic assault cases is six weeks, and Jacobs had entered a no contest plea to such charges the prior month, which aligns with the timeframe he has spent on the list.
The investigation continues as highlighted in Schefter’s report; however, barring the public release of the video, it appears quite likely that the running back will be suited up for Week 7 against the Detroit Lions.
