The most anticipated Monday on the golfing schedule is always dubbed “Golf’s Marathon Day,” when numerous participants compete at ultimate qualification venues hoping to secure their entry into the U.S. Open.
There’s a unique atmosphere surrounding U.S. Open qualification, where established professionals, celebrated figures from past eras, emerging amateur talents, and everyday individuals all vie for a coveted position in the premier national championship. For this year’s event, 62 players secured their places in the lineup at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club through the qualifying rounds—after over 10,000 initially registered—joining the 85 athletes who gained direct entry by exemption into the championship.
A prominent narrative from Monday’s events was the surge of young talent observed nationwide, as several leading young amateurs advanced to the 126th U.S. Open, notably led by the world’s top junior player, Miles Russell.
With his friend and fellow 2027 Florida State commit, Charlie Woods, caddying for him, Russell navigated an unpredictable performance at BallenIsles Country Club in Palm Beach Gardens, finishing 6 strokes under par—despite incurring a triple bogey and a double bogey—over 36 holes of play to reach a playoff. He sank a birdie on the second playoff hole, overcoming Tyler Collet and securing his place among golf’s elite on Long Island the following week.
Russell wasn’t the sole high school student to qualify for the U.S. Open. Giuseppe Puebla, ranked second by the AJGA, also earned his spot through the BallenIsles qualifier, while New Yorker Jackson Ormond secured a position via the Gaston Country Club qualifier in North Carolina. Both Puebla and Ormond are committed to playing collegiate golf at Florida, where they will contend against Russell and Woods.
Conversely, some seasoned tour professionals leveraged the qualifying process to secure another appearance at the U.S. Open. Notables such as J.B. Holmes, Billy Horschel, Keith Mitchell, and Graeme McDowell all clinched spots through final qualifying, earning another opportunity to participate in a major tournament.
Listed below is the complete roster for the 2026 U.S. Open, beginning with those who qualified and followed by individuals who received exemptions. Additional entries can still be secured at the RBC Canadian Open, as the top 60 players in the world rankings as of June 15 (next Monday) are eligible to join the current 146-player lineup.
