According to reports from NFL Network, the Los Angeles Rams are set to play without their standout pass rusher, Myles Garrett, for a minimum of four weeks as he undergoes a surgical procedure on his knee.
Acquired by Los Angeles during the offseason in a major trade with the Cleveland Browns, Garrett is slated to have arthroscopic knee surgery and will subsequently be designated for the injured reserve list.
The organization anticipates that Garrett can make his comeback in a month’s time. He had already sidelined himself during training camp because of an issue with his left knee, but he managed to suit up for the team’s opening-week defeat against the San Francisco 49ers.
During that matchup, Garrett appeared highly ineffective compared to his usual standard. The current Defensive Player of the Year did not record a single tackle or sack throughout the disappointing 27-7 defeat to San Francisco.
Following the game, Garrett acknowledged his physical limitations, stating he had to heal properly so he could “get back to the player I know I can be.”
This setback represents a major obstacle for the Rams, who traded away Jared Verse along with several draft selections to secure Garrett during the offseason. The elite defender was projected to be a cornerstone of the Rams’ championship aspirations this year, and his presence was highly influential in convincing legendary lineman Aaron Donald to end his retirement for another campaign.
Nevertheless, there remains ample opportunity for Garrett to impact the Rams’ season down the stretch. Providing his rehabilitation progresses without further complications, the Rams should soon return to full strength. Should they maintain their health deep into the schedule, the franchise remains well-positioned to fulfill its expectations as a top-tier championship candidate.
