Basketball commentator Reggie Miller is known for making controversial statements during broadcasts. However, his recent comments concerning the Spurs-Timberwolves game played yesterday might have pushed many viewers to their limit.
In the pre-match coverage for the fifth game, Miller discussed how Wembanyama escaped a ban following an elbow strike to Naz Reid in Game 4. He unequivocally conveyed his backing for Wembanyama to Mike Tirico and Jamal Crawford, asserting that “occasional aggression is necessary” in the sport of basketball.
“That elbow strike resonated throughout the basketball community,” Miller stated. “Sometimes force is required to convey a message, wouldn’t you agree?”
Miller reiterated this sentiment later in the match, following Wembanyama’s explosive start, scoring an impressive 16 points within the opening minutes.
“What did I mention earlier?” Miller proclaimed, “Sometimes aggression is called for.”
“Remove Him From the Broadcast”
Enthusiasts of the NBA were far from pleased with Miller’s choice of words in supporting Wembanyama’s behavior or his endorsement of the Spurs’ star player.
On X, one individual commented, “Prior to the telecast, Reggie Miller asserted that sometimes aggression is necessary to make a statement… appalling.”
“Confound Reggie Miller! The most dreadful commentator in history,” another person conveyed.
A third individual expressed, “Reggie Miller’s commentary is intolerable.”
“Reggie Miller stands as the most incompetent commentator alive.”
“I frequently reiterate this, but Reggie Miller’s presence as a commentator is incredibly vexing. It’s truly insufferable.”
“Nothing is more disagreeable than witnessing your team suffer a heavy defeat while Reggie Miller is providing commentary.”
It’s worth noting that Mike Tirico also seemed displeased with Miller’s terminology and attempted to prompt him to retract his declaration that “aggression is necessary.” If such an exchange occurred during the broadcast, it’s highly probable that Miller received a reprimand after the match.
While a public statement regarding Miller’s comments is unlikely, he certainly failed to gain new admirers yesterday evening.
