Serina Wiegman, the boss of the Lionesses, has extended her contract with the national team, ensuring her position until the conclusion of Euro 2029.
Wiegman assumed leadership of the team in September 2021, and during her tenure, she has successfully guided the squad to back-to-back Euros victories in 2022 and 2025, in addition to reaching the final of the 2023 World Cup, where they suffered a 1-0 defeat against Spain.
The 56-year-old expressed her excitement regarding her new agreement, stating, “I am thrilled to continue working with this squad and can hardly imagine a more fulfilling role in football. Being part of a world-class organization like The FA, alongside so many dedicated individuals focused on achieving success for England teams and advancing our game, inspires me every single day.”
“I am thankful to Mark Bullingham, Debbie Hewitt, and the FA Board for their exceptional support towards me, my coaches, and support staff, along with the players.”
“The trust they have placed in me is something I deeply appreciate and aim to maintain this outstanding partnership. I possess a strong ambition to discover what more we can accomplish together with our incredible fans.”
“I also want to continue fostering the fantastic collaborative efforts led by The FA in promoting the women’s game, especially in nurturing young talents and coaches.”
“Naturally, those who know me will realize that my primary focus at this moment is the World Cup, and assisting this squad in reaching their full potential in the upcoming years. We have a crucial responsibility to secure our position in Brazil, and I hope we can achieve that and provide the country with another memorable summer next year.”
Wiegman’s upcoming matches are critical, with her England squad set to compete against Ukraine in the World Cup Qualification Play-off final, having successfully advanced past Greece earlier this month.
