Sinner’s Coach Set to Depart

At the conclusion of this year, the mentor who assisted Jannik Sinner in capturing five Grand Slam trophies and reaching the top ranking in world tennis will depart his coaching team.

The 61-year-old Australian, Darren Cahill, became part of the Italian star’s setup back in June 2022, a time when Sinner was sitting just shy of the top 10 ranking and had yet to advance past the quarter-final stage at any major tournament.

Working alongside Italian tactician Simone Vagnozzi, however, Cahill steered Sinner toward securing five major crowns and maintaining the world number one position for a total of 95 weeks.

A physical setback has kept the 25-year-old sidelined since his second consecutive Wimbledon triumph in July, allowing Alexander Zverev to recently eclipse him at the summit of the world rankings.

His competitive comeback is scheduled for next month at the Six Kings Slam exhibition event held in Saudi Arabia.

Heading into the upcoming season, Swedish trainer Magnus Norman, who previously spent many years coaching the newly retired Stan Wawrinka, will be added to Sinner’s backroom staff.

“Darren has played a vital role in my development,” stated Sinner.

“Alongside Simone and everyone in our group, we have accomplished milestones I could only dream about as a child.

“He has fostered my growth on and off the court, and the wisdom he shared will remain with me for the rest of my career.”

Although Cahill initially intended to step down after 2025, he informed Sinner during Wimbledon that the Italian would have the choice to keep him around, provided he claimed the championship.

“It has been a unique privilege and honor to guide Jannik,” expressed Cahill.
