Megan Davey, the Loughborough Lightning centurion, has been called up to the expanded Wales preparation squad under Sean Lynn for the upcoming WXV Global Series.

Having debuted for the Lightning at just 17 years old, the scrum-half holds the appearance record for Nathan Smith’s East Midlands outfit with 124 matches played.

Davey, alongside Kendall Waudby (who has subsequently signed with Sale Sharks), received her maiden invitation to the Wales training setup prior to the 2026 Guinness Women’s Six Nations.

Back then, Davey remarked: “I was initially approached about representing Wales before the 2021 Rugby World Cup [which was rescheduled to 2022 because of the worldwide pandemic].

“I’ve spent several years reflecting on the prospect, and now I am eager to seize this chance and bring pride to my country. I’m ready to give it my all. Coach Lynn has made me feel incredibly welcome, and I hope to find the same warmth from the other players.

“My late grandfather, James Davey, was Welsh. Playing at the international level has always been a lifelong ambition of mine, and it is something my family has consistently supported me to achieve.

“I hope to make everyone proud and pay tribute to my grandfather’s legacy. I am absolutely thrilled about this entire journey.”

During September and October, the Welsh side is scheduled to host home Test matches against both the USA Women’s Eagles and Springbok Women, followed by consecutive games against Japan in Tokyo and Kumagaya.

In Lynn’s squad, she will compete for the halfback position alongside Keira Bevan, Seren Lockwood, and Ffion Williams.

Since Lynn took over the head coaching duties prior to the 2025 Guinness Women’s Six Nations, the Welsh team has managed to secure only a single victory.

That solitary 21-12 triumph occurred against Australia in Brisbane 13 months ago. Since then, Wales suffered an early exit from the 2025 Women’s Rugby World Cup and struggled through a second consecutive winless campaign in the Women’s Six Nations.
