Brentford’s midfielder, Vitaly Janelt, has extended his agreement with the club.
The 27-year-old athlete has finalized terms that will keep him with the team until the summer of 2030, including a potential additional year at the club’s discretion.
Throughout his 216 appearances for the Bees across various competitions, Janelt has contributed 13 goals and 16 assists, and notably in January, he achieved the milestone of becoming the initial Brentford player to participate in 150 Premier League matches.
Head coach Keith Andrews expressed his satisfaction, stating, “I am thrilled that this has been completed.”
“Vitaly is an essential component. He holds immense significance in our playing strategy, and he serves as a pivotal personality within both the changing room and the entire organization.”
“For several years, he has been an outstanding performer for us, therefore, I am extremely glad to secure Vitaly’s ongoing presence. He is expected to be a key contributor for our team for many more seasons.”
“Vitaly is a crucial element… he will remain a significant contributor to our team for a considerable time ahead.”
After beginning his professional career at RB Leipzig and subsequently playing for Bochum, the midfielder, originally from Hamburg, joined the west London squad in October 2020.
During his inaugural season at the club, Janelt emerged as a central figure in the team’s successful bid to achieve promotion to the Premier League for the first time, participating in all but two Championship matches and finding the net in a 3-1 second-leg play-off semi-final victory against Bournemouth at the Gtech Community Stadium.
Subsequently, the midfielder commenced the final game alongside Mathias Jensen in the central area as the team triumphed over Swansea City with a 2-0 scoreline at Wembley Stadium.
During Brentford’s first season in the Premier League, he featured in 31 encounters and, just one day after agreeing to a new four-year contract in April 2022, he marked the occasion by netting two goals in a memorable 4-1 victory over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
Janelt first wore the captain’s armband for the club in August 2022 during a 2-0 Carabao Cup success against Colchester United, and that season he accumulated an additional 37 appearances across all tournaments.
Brentford’s 2023/24 season was affected by multiple injuries, yet Janelt consistently appeared in every fixture across all competitions—with only two of these instances starting from the bench—and he was recognized as the Players’ Player of the Season.
In the last season’s 35 games, he led the team as captain six times before being sidelined for the concluding month following a successful surgical procedure to correct a heel problem.
He has participated in 20 matches this current season, providing three assists in the most recent two premier league fixtures as Andrews’ squad secured victories against Everton and Sunderland.
