The ownership group of Birmingham City has finalized the acquisition of the women’s football team, with celebrated England and Blues figure Karen Carney participating as one of several independent investors in the transaction.
Shelby Companies Limited (SCL) functions as a subsidiary of Knighthead Capital Management — an investment entity co-established by Blues chairman Tom Wagner.
They initially secured a controlling interest in the Championship club in July 2023, subsequently increasing their stake to a complete takeover last November.
Presently, they have obtained a 97% share in the female squad.
The remaining 3% has been assumed by a collective of “prominent female business leaders and global professional sporting icons,” which includes Carney, with her 144 caps, and three-time US Open tennis champion Kim Clijsters.
In an official announcement,, external the club conveyed that this agreement “is set to heighten the focus on the women’s team” and “will deliver on the stated goal to contend at the highest levels in the women’s sport.”
They additionally stated that there would be “no immediate alterations to staffing or football operations” following the acquisition.
