The reasons for the San Antonio Spurs’ star player, Victor Wembanyama’s discontent following Game 4 versus the Portland Trail Blazers, are now understood.

During an appearance on the Pat McAfee show, Shams Charania of ESPN revealed the precise cause of Wembanyama’s annoyance regarding his absence from Game 3.

According to Charania, “Victor Wembanyama and the Spurs were under the impression that he had received clearance to participate in Game 3,” and he added, “He expressed disappointment about not being permitted to play in Game 3.”

Following the Spurs establishing a 3-1 lead in the series on Sunday, Wembanyama displayed clear displeasure when questioned about his concussion management.

Wembanyama informed reporters, “I prefer not to delve into specifics. I wish to avoid this becoming a diversion. You may inquire again once the season concludes.”

He continued, “Nevertheless, all the medical professionals, particularly those with the Spurs, and medical staff generally, performed admirably and provided excellent care. However, the manner in which the circumstances were managed was quite disheartening, though this does not reflect on the Spurs. … It represented a specific judgment. I am not asserting whether it was positive or negative. Yet, the overall execution of the scenario proved highly unsatisfying.”

The Spurs reap advantages from Victor Wembanyama’s reappearance

The prominent French athlete did not receive clearance to participate in the third game of the series. The Spurs ultimately emerged victorious; nevertheless, they did so in the absence of their potential Most Valuable Player.

While Game 3 proved to be a closely contested match, Game 4, featuring Wembanyama back on the hardwood, presented minimal challenge for San Antonio (for the majority of the game). Wembanyama rejoined play and delivered an outstanding performance, accumulating 27 points on 9-of-17 successful field goal attempts, 12 boards, three dimes, four takeaways, and seven rejections across 34 minutes of play.

Wembanyama initially sustained a head injury on Tuesday during the second game of the series. The fall appeared alarming and severe, yet fortunately for the dual All-Star and the Spurs organization, his condition is now stable.

The Spurs are now presented with an opportunity to conclude the series before their local supporters on Tuesday. The game is scheduled to commence at 8:30 Central Time.
